The Magic Mountain Lodge

Magic Mountain Lodge – The Perfect Base for Ski Touring in the Lyngen Alps

Anyone travelling to the Lyngen Alps for ski touring or hiking is looking for more than just a place to sleep. After a long day in the mountains, you want to take off your ski boots, enjoy a great meal and relax in a welcoming atmosphere. That is exactly what the Magic Mountain Lodge in Lyngseidet offers.

For me, the lodge has become much more than accommodation for my guests. It is a place where people meet, share stories, plan adventures and form lasting friendships. Over the years, it has grown into a social hub for ski tourers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world.

In the Heart of the Lyngen Alps

The location is hard to beat. Situated in Lyngseidet, right in the heart of the Lyngen Alps, the lodge provides quick access to almost every major ski touring area in the region. From Storgalten in the north to Tamokdalen in the south, most tours are only five minutes to one hour away.

The nearby ferry to Olderdalen opens up additional classics such as Giilavarri and Storhaugen. This central location allows me to choose the best destination each morning based on the latest weather, snow and avalanche conditions.

A Lodge with a Story

The building that is now the Magic Mountain Lodge has an interesting history. It was originally built as a nursing home before Henrika and Patrik transformed it into one of the best-known lodges for ski touring in the Lyngen Alps.

Their vision was simple: create a place where guests from all over the world immediately feel at home. Today, the lodge is known not only for its comfort but also for its warm, personal atmosphere.

Genuine Hospitality

The special atmosphere of the lodge is something you experience rather than describe.

The day starts with a generous breakfast buffet, where guests prepare their own packed lunch for the mountains. In the afternoon, people gather for coffee, freshly baked waffles and conversations about the day's adventures.

In the evening, everyone meets again for dinner. Fresh fish from the fjords, Norwegian lamb and Arctic seafood are regular highlights on the buffet. Simple, high-quality food that is exactly what you need after a full day in the mountains.

The Wood-Fired Sauna

After a day of ski touring in Northern Norway, there is hardly a better way to relax than in the lodge's traditional wood-fired sauna.

Originally inspired by Henrika's Finnish roots, it has become one of the highlights of every stay. The warmth, the scent of wood and the peaceful atmosphere create the perfect place to unwind—especially while snow is falling outside or the Northern Lights dance across the sky.

My Second Home

Over the past year, the Magic Mountain Lodge has also become my second home. Since Henrika and I have been together, I spend a large part of the year here and help wherever I can.

Whether preparing breakfast, cleaning rooms or heating the sauna, working in the lodge is a welcome contrast to my work as a psychotherapist and IFMGA Mountain & Ski Guide. It also allows me to experience everyday life in Northern Norway and become part of this wonderful community.

More Than Accommodation

Many guests return year after year—not only because of the spectacular ski touring in the Lyngen Alps, but also because of the atmosphere inside the lodge.

Evenings are spent planning tours, studying weather maps and sharing experiences from the mountains. Friendships are formed, future adventures are planned, and visitors from all over the world become part of a welcoming community.

For me, the Magic Mountain Lodge is the perfect base for both my guided ski tours in the Lyngen Alps and my summer hiking trips. Its central location, comfortable rooms, outstanding food and genuine hospitality make it a place people love to return to.

During the winter ski touring season, the lodge is often fully booked a year in advance, although individual rooms occasionally become available. If you are planning a ski touring holiday in the Lyngen Alps, the Magic Mountain Lodge is one of the best places to stay.
