Hiking under the Arctic sky

A vigorous hike begins in the centre of Lyngseidet and leads over around 1,200 stone steps, built by Nepalese Sherpas, up through the forest and over the flanks of the mountains to the viewing platform above the Lyngenfjord.

From there, an impressive panorama opens up: the fjord below us, the peaks of the Lyngen Alps in front of us, and the small village of Lyngseidet like a miniature in the depths.

The hike to Røneshytta in the Lyngen Alps starts in the valley at Lyngseidet and climbs through birch forest and over moss-covered slopes. The terrain soon becomes more open and the view extends over the deep blue fjord to rugged peaks. At an altitude of around 600 metres, you reach the Røneshytta wooden hut - a peaceful retreat with a sweeping panorama. The way back follows the same path back down into the valley.

This tour leads from Kvalvik up to Oksen, a beautiful vantage point above the Kvalvikdalen valley. The path climbs steadily - first through birch forest, then over open slopes with views of the fjord and the sea. Kvalvikhytta is also located halfway up, which is ideal for a cosy break.

There is a magnificent panorama from the summit. A short but rewarding climb with a small summit experience.

We start in Koppangen and follow a quiet path that leads us through wooded sections and over mossy slopes. Passing Fastdalshyttta, where we take a short break, the landscape opens up: the fjord lies at our feet and the rugged mountains rise up into the sky.

We climb Loktosvárri and then descend past Rottenvikvatnet to Rottenvik.

At the northernmost point of the Lyngen Peninsula lies a special place: Lyngstuva, where the land ends and the sea begins. This easy to moderately difficult hike in the Lyngen Alps takes you through vast coastal landscapes, over soft mosses, small streams and wind-sculpted rocks - always accompanied by views of the open sea.

The trail starts in Russelv and climbs gently northwards. The further you walk, the wider the horizon opens up: the sea in front of you, the peaks of the Lyngen Alps behind you. The small Lyngstuva lighthouse awaits you at your destination, lonely and proud above the waves. Here you can feel the power of the north - wind, salt air and silence.

From the cliff, you have an impressive panoramic view of the sea, the fjords and the glaciers to the south. A place to pause, take photographs or simply savour the moment.

After breakfast at the Magic Mountain Lodge, we drive back to Tromsø together.
