Hiking under the Arctic sky

As summer draws to a close in Lyngen, the landscape begins to change. The birch trees turn yellow, the light softens, and dark evenings return to the fjords. We spend our days outdoors; after dinner, it is worth looking up. With a little luck, we may see the first northern lights of the season.

Price: €1,490 per person

We hike to viewpoints above the fjord, walk through birch forest and follow paths towards the sea and the mountains. Along the way, there is time to pause by the water, enjoy a warm cup of tea and notice the details we might otherwise miss. We do not need to climb a summit to have a good day in Lyngen.

In Norway, there is a word for this: Friluftsliv. It is the pleasure of spending time outdoors – not only when the sun shines, and not because you have a sporting goal to reach. After each hike, we return to the Magic Mountain Lodge, share dinner and perhaps step outside again later. With a little luck, the northern lights will appear above the fjord.

This trip is for you if you enjoy walking and want to discover Northern Norway at an unhurried pace. The three guided hikes usually take around two to four hours. You should be sure-footed on uneven paths and have a reasonable level of fitness. Difficult mountain routes, long traverses and days focused on gaining as much height as possible are not part of the programme.

The trip at a glance

• Northern lights are possible, but cannot be guaranteed. The hikes and time outdoors are the heart of the programme.

Price: €1,490 per person for four nights in a shared double room, full board, transfers and three guided hikes. The price for a single room is €1,690 per person, subject to availability on request. Travel to and from Tromsø is not included.

The trip runs with a minimum of four participants and a maximum of eight.
